Introduction

In this webquest you will be looking at New Glarus, Wisconsin and seeking information to write a small report on the location as a tourist destination.

The report will include a small overview of the town, its people and why tourists should visit the village. 

Warm-up

To understand a little more about New Glarus, Wisconsin:




  • What makes it so special?

  • When was it originally settled?

  • It is the starting point for which bike trail?

  • In 1980 how many people lived in the village?

  • What is the nearest local airport called?

  • What number do you dial for the library?

  • What is the telephone number for the kinderchor?


Task 1 Research for your trip:



  • Imagine you left Switzerland in 1845 to make such a journey.

  • What would you have taken with you for such a trip?

  • Why do you think they were successful in creating their new life?

Task 2 Planning your trip

Where would you decide to stay overnight in New Glarus?

First visit www.yahoo.com and type in New Glarus, Wisconsin hotels –
did you get the same results as those listed on www.swisstown.com?

Please choose 3 hotels listed and then visit  www.tripadvisor.com to type in the names of your hotel choices.

  • Were you surprised about the feedback?

  • Which hotel did you choose and why? 

  • What facilities were  important ( sauna, pool, child friendly, location) in your decision?

Task 3 Write a 200 word report

Title: My Planned Trip to New Glarus

Now we have researched New Glarus and the local area, please write a small report
(less than 200 words) to include a small paragraph on the history of the town and your reasons to visit.

It should include the decision to stay overnight, the sights you want to see and which restaurant you plan to eat in.
